Anthony Naples: Body Pill Vinyl LP

Anthony Naples: Body Pill Vinyl LP

Anthony Naples stretches out on his first full length. He's impressed many a punter from his initial release on Mister Saturday Night through his work on Trilogy Tapes and is poised to continue to do so with Body Pill. Moving from the aforementioned labels on to Four Tet's Text seems like a fitting step for the young producer. The first thing that might surprise you is that there is much more than just the dance floor oriented Naples here. It's immediately obvious from the album opener, "Ris." It's an ambient cut that washes away into a synth pop strut. "Abrazo" recalls Andres while the strings move in a more synthetic direction. There are more experimental electronic moments as well. "Pale" takes glassy synths out on the ice before tempering them with sub heavy bass. There are the twee arpeggios of "Way Stone" and the proto dub pop of "Used To Be." Body Pill is an accomplished album for a producer that seems to be just getting started.
