Originally released in 1972, Dr. John's Gumbo found the Southern rhythm & blues artist covering a collection of New Orleans classics in his signature eccentric style. The music here can be seen as a a tribute from the Night Tripper to his hometown of New Orleans, featuring an excellent selection of tunes including interpretations of N'awlins traditionals ("Iko Iko", "Tipitina", "Junko Partner" and "Stack-O-Lee") as well as covers of more contemporary tracks by Huey Piano Smith and Earl King all"drenched in good vibes and spiced with a pinch of voodoo." This deluxe Analog Productions reissue comes on super heavyweight 200 gram vinyl and features remastered sound from the original master tapes by Kevin Gray at Cohearant Audio.
