General Ludd: The Fit of Passion Vinyl EP
Mister Saturday Night continues their run of banging 12" releases that draw on material from across the board. After working with a few Irish producers they take a turn toward Glasgow with this two tracker from General Ludd. Although Ludd may not a be a familiar name to most, the artists behind it should be. The duo behind General Ludd, Tom Marshallsay and Rich McMaster, have both been releasing tracks separately over the past few years. Marshallsay is best known for his releases as Dam Mantle while McMaster has popped up with the groups Silk Cut, Tropic of Capricorn and the superb Golden Teacher. "Woo Ha" packs a highly energetic punch that seems to follow in the footsteps of McMaster's work with Golden Teacher. With Mister Saturday Night having taken a dip into the abstract techno pool over the past few 12"s it's refreshing to see the label turn towards disco infused house. It's a simple enough cut, but the elements are worked to their utmost potential, delivering a frenzied and effective cut. Things are more subdued on the Soul Children sampling "Brothers & Sisters." Loose drums work a Rhodes and bass sample as the vocals repeat the title refrain. General Ludd is definitely following in the footsteps of MCDE's Raw Cuts series, but they bring it in all the right ways.
