Poetry for the Beat Generation was originally recorded in a single session in 1958 and was the first in a trio of albums from the iconoclastic novelist. Kerouac was brought into the studio by TV personality, comic and musician Steve Allen after the duo had performed at the Village Vanguard. His piano comes off as the perfect foil for the author's spoken-word delivery. Kerouac's monotone is rife with jazz inflected articulation, moving with ease over Allen's lithe piano playing. It's easy to see the Beat poet's influence over artists like Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, Jim Morrison and David Bowie. Fourteen tracks in all. Released by Real Gone Music on limited edition Beatnik Smoke vinyl housed in a full color sleeve.
