Jurassic 5: J5 Deluxe - Bonus & Unreleased 2LP
The J5 EP introduced the world to California's Jurassic 5 and was arguably the best material that they ever released. Well, that and the "Unified Rebelution" 12" (featured here) that gave birth to the group. Their kinetic style encompassed old and new school hip hop while bringing a certain Cali edge to the affair. Truth be told, when I first picked up a copy of that "Unified Rebelution" 12" I did not know where or when it was from. With the J5 EP the group fleshed out their style and exceed the expectations set by the previous 12". The J5 Deluxe: Bonus & Unreleased LP dropped in 2008 in tandem with a re-release of the J5 EP to commemorate the 10 year anniversary of the EP. The rarities and B-sides that are collected here provide an interesting mix of DJ oriented routines, radio appearances, and freestyles. J5 Deluxe showcases a time when the Rebels of Rhythm and Unity Committee were at their most potent.
