M.I.A.: Matangi (MIA) 2LP

M.I.A.: Matangi (MIA) 2LP

Finally, the long-awaited new album from M.I.A. is here! Originally slated for release late 2012, Matangi was delayed due to disputes with Interscope, but almost a year later it finally drops and was well worth the wait. According to M.I.A., this is her "spiritual" album (it is actually named after the Hindu goddess of music) and deals with themes of karma and reincarnation in the lyrics. As with her previous efforts, she juxtaposes Eastern and Western styles and ideas flawlessly, creating a sound that is uniquely hers. But I wouldn't take the "spiritual" thing to seriously though, as the beats still bang for the club (courtesy of long-time collaborator Switch, Hit-Boy, Surkin, and the Partysquad) and it seems she's even brushed up on her rap skills quite a bit! Check the first single "Bad Girls," the heavy "Only 1 U," "Exodus" (and "Sexodus") with The Weeknd, "Double Bubble Trouble," "Y.A.L.A." (aka You Always Live Again) and "Bring The Noize." Double vinyl pressing with gatefold sleeve and free download.
