Miles Davis: Big Fun (Music On Vinyl 180g) Vinyl 2LP

Miles Davis: Big Fun (Music On Vinyl 180g) Vinyl 2LP

Side-long Miles Davis compositions? Yes! Originally released in 1974, Big Fun features 4 tracks that highlight three different facets of the iconic trumpeter’s “electric” period. “Great Expectations” and “Lonely Fire” were recorded months after Bitches Brew, and in addition to incorporating Indian instruments like sitar, tambura, and tabla, they capture Davis using the Harmon mute, which eventually would become his signature characteristic. “Ife” was recorded during 1972 On the Corner sessions, and the track, which is driven by a hypnotic bassline, takes on a similar vibe as the album with a focus on “musicians improvising individually and in combinations.” Recorded in 1970, “Go Ahead John” is an outtake from Davis’ Jack Johnson sessions, and the groove-heavy track, featuring Steve Grossman, Dave Holland, Jack DeJohnette, and John McLaughlin, is all about riffs. This is a 180g audiophile vinyl pressing housed in a gatefold sleeve, and the LP features Herbie Hancock, Lonnie Listen Smith, Chick Corea, and more.
