"In A River" became a staple of every show during Rostam's Half-Light North American Tour, which took place 2017-2018. He started getting the audience involved in the song starting in the latter half of the concert leg, and once he was in the studio to actually record, he was sure he wanted to capture the feeling of when "In A River" was performed live. Fluctuating tempo, meeting of organic and electronic sounds (starts with mandolin chords, ends with 808 bass), and lyrics that capture the naiveties of new love… sold.
