Theo Parrish & Tony Allen: Day Like This / Feel Loved 12"
The first release from Theo Parrish's new imprint Wildheart Recordings and it's hot! According to Theo, "Sound Signature releases for the body, Wildheart is for everything else." And if that everything else features legendary Afrobeat drummer Tony Allen along with a host of other notables from Theo's previous releases then we'll take as much as we can get. Allen and Theo initially met at Red Bull Academy in 2007 in Toronto and linked again in 2010 when they spent a couple of days together in London with a little help from the energy drink manufacturer. Vocalists Eska and Andrew Ashong (who also contributed on bass) added their finishing touches in 2012, along with some guitar from David Okumu. "Day Like This" plays out like a modern soul classic with the additional benefit of the poly rhythms provided by Allen. A soulful cut that is destined for great heights. On the flip things move further afield with "Feel Loved." Again the Allen's drumming is on full display, but we are in deeper waters here. These two strong cuts leave us wanting more from Wildheart! Recommended.
