Tommy Guerrero: Dub Tunes Vinyl 12"
Legendary skater and multi-instrumentalist Tommy Guerrero is no stranger to pushing boundaries. Throughout the early '80's Guerrero contributed to the global rise of skateboard culture (for the deep heads check out his Future Primitive street skateboarding video) before shifting gears and pursuing his passion for music. He released a slew of solid albums that are all sought after for their stripped-down, downtempo blues-y nature. Guerrero incorporates aspects of jazz, rock, funk, soul, and hip-hop to create a sound best described by the title of his debut: "Loose Grooves & Bastard Blues". Dub Tunes is the result of the meeting of two open minded people driven by their shared passion of music and skateboarding. The album features five original compositions by Guerrero on Side A while Side B includes three remixes by producer and graphic designer Trevor Jackson, who give the tracks a welcome dub edit, perfect for after-hours DJs or vibing out at home. The concept of the release was inspired by The Upsetters album Lee Perry Meets The Mad Professor, which draws on post-industrial noise with heavy dub echoes. Don't snooze! 8 tracks in all pressed onto yellow vinyl, released by Ed Banger Records.
